Asthma UK/Innovate UK networking workshop

We are excited to be participating in the networking workshop being organised by Asthma UK and Innovate UK taking place on the 2nd of May. Dr Chad Schaber will be giving a 4 minute "Dragon's Den" style pitch on how Owlstone Medical is addressing the challenge of developing new tools for asthma diagnosis and stratification.
There will be presentations from speakers including Dr Anne Blackwood, CEO Health Enterprise East (a leading NHS innovation and technology consultancy based in Cambridge), after which the Dragon’s Den style presentations will take place. The afternoon features further networking opportunities where attendees will have the opportunity to interact with each other on a one-to-one basis.

Breath biomarkers are uniquely positioned to aid in asthma diagnosis and treatment monitoring. The spectrum of asthma endotypes has confounded attempts to properly stratify patients, leading to trial-and-error treatment regimes. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in breath dynamically reflect the metabolic and inflammatory state of the lung, and several pilot studies have found breath biomarkers compete with or outperform current diagnostic approaches. At the cutting edge of breath research, Owlstone Medical tools and expertise has enabled parts of past research and is now allowing for studies of unprecedented scope. The Breath Biopsy platform provides standardized breath collection and detailed analysis, making for easy integration of breath biomarker exploration studies into a range of asthma research areas. By partnering with academics and clinicians, we hope to expand scientific understanding of the links between asthma, its treatments, and its biomarkers to facilitate the creation of new, non-invasive, and superior diagnostics.
