Digestive Disease Week® 2017
McCormick Place, Chicago, IL, 06-09 May 2017
Digestive Disease Week (DDW) is the world's largest gathering of physicians, researchers and industry in the fields of gastroenterology, hepatology, endoscopy and gastrointestinal surgery. This year's conference is being held at McCormick Place in Chicago, IL, from 6 - 9th May.
Gastroenterologists from the Mayo Clinic Liam Zakko, M.D. and Kenneth Wang, M.D. will be presenting results from a pilot study that trialled Owlstone Medical's FAIMS (field asymmetric ion mobility spectrometry) technology for the identification patients inadequately prepped for colonoscopy. In the study, VOC biomarkers emitted from pre-procedural stool samples were captured and analyzed using the ATLAS Headspace Sampler and Lonestar VOC Analyzer, a FAIMS sensor platform. Results demonstrated that the Owlstone Medical's technology is able to rapidly and effectively identify patients inadequately prepped for colonoscopy with 100% sensitivity and 80% specificity.
Following the successful pilot study, Mayo Clinic and Owlstone Medical are now collaborating on a larger clinical trial to evaluate FAIMS technology as a pre-endoscopic test
