Webinar: Using Exhaled Breath to Analyze the Gut Microbiome

Date: 19 Sep 2023

Location: Online

Time: 3pm BST

Presenters: Dr Huw Davies and Dr Nabeetha Nagalingam

Join us at our upcoming webinar ‘Using Exhaled Breath to Analyze the Gut Microbiome’ on 19th September 2023. Hosted by Owlstone Medical’s Principal Translational Scientist Dr. Nabeetha Nagalingam and VP of Business Development, Research Products and Services Dr. Huw Davies,we will introduce how breath analysis can be used to gain a deeper understanding of the gut microbiome.

Breath analysis has many unique advantages that can be useful in microbiome research. One key application is in measuring volatile microbial metabolites in different disease contexts including inflammatory bowel disease and liver disease. These metabolites can originate anywhere in the body including the gastrointestinal tract. Volatile metabolites can then travel through blood circulation to the lungs where they readily volatilize into air, and subsequently exhaled. This exhaled breath, carrying microbial signals, can be analyzed to provide insight into microbial activity in locations remote from the lung. Several case studies will be covered, as well as the possibilities for at-home breath collection and analysis for decentralized clinical trial designs, and improved diagnostic tools.

This webinar is for researchers interested in exploring the use of non-invasive breath biomarkers in relation to the microbiome, and anyone with an interest in learning more about the potential of breath research for clinical practice.
