VIGIL

VOC In-field Gas Identification Lab for rapid analysis of breath samples

  • Analyzes breath samples in just 10 minutes
  • System utilizes Field-Asymmetric Ion Mobility Spectrometry (FAIMS) to measure breath volatiles from samples on sorbent tubes
OVERVIEW

Introducing the VIGIL (VOC In-field Gas Identification Lab), allowing for rapid analysis of your breath samples in any setting. The system can be used within a range of research applications, including for disease diagnostics or monitoring.

What is VIGIL?

VIGIL is a compact, benchtop ion spectrometer designed to analyse breath samples using ultra-high-field FAIMS technology.  The system uses Field-Asymmetric Ion Mobility Spectrometry (FAIMS) to quickly separate and measure breath volatiles from samples stored on sorbent tubes. Integrated, high-performance Metal Oxide Semiconductor (MOS) sensors provide orthogonal chemical responses to complement the FAIMS spectra and increase effective resolution.

A built-in fast thermal desorber permits cycle times, including desorption, analysis and cool-down, under ten minutes per sample. During the desorption cycle, VIGIL’s parallel FAIMS and MOS sensors capture rapid sequences of high-resolution chemical data, producing time-resolved compound spectra characteristic of the volatile composition of the sample.

Spectral data may be exported to open data formats for downstream analysis and interpretation.

VIGIL is designed to work with industry-standard thermal desorption tubes, as well as our range of Breath Biopsy consumables, and is especially well suited to analysing samples taken with Owlstone’s range of ReCIVA Breath Samplers.

HOW IT WORKS

How it works

ReCIVA Breath Samplers

A range of easy-to-use, low-cost samplers for breath collection any time, any place

  1. Sampler passively collects VOCs from exhaled breath
  2. Subject exhales into the ReCIVA device

VIGIL

VOC In-field Gas Identification Lab for rapid analysis of breath samples

  1. Operator loads breath sample into VIGIL
  2. System identifies VOCs from FAIMS ion spectra augmented with Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (MOS) data
  3. Rapid 10-minute sample cycle time
  4. Readout displayed locally and optionally transmitted over secure network
